“I started to see my potential!”

We moved to Saskatchewan in May 2011 and my husband was working as a territory director. We were living our dream! But in November 2012, he was downsized and took work at a local lumber store. We went from a six-figure income to $15 an hour. I was only working part-time, so got a full-time sales job at a local newspaper. Financially, we were struggling and became regulars at the food bank. Then my boss began to comment how I was in danger of losing my job due to my “lack of appropriate attire.” We had no money for a new wardrobe and the comments continued about my clothing.

I was off work sick for October and was facing a cancer diagnosis. I wondered if anything else could go wrong. December was not looking good with no money for Christmas, much less a wardrobe for me. But a gift arrived from Dress for Success Saskatoon on December 17.

When I arrived that evening, it became apparent very quickly that this would be an extraordinary experience. Fay and her team were incredible. The room was lovely and welcoming. The fitting was very professional and I tried on clothes I never would have because they would be out of my price range. As I looked in the mirror, I started to see an attractive, professional sales person. I started to see my potential!
Dress for Success Saskatoon clothed me so everything is interchangeable. The class, cut and fit of the clothing is perfect. I am outfitted completely from head to toe and do not need to buy a thing to finish the look.

For me, the road back out of that hopeless box started with Dress for Success. I had felt so low, so blocked in, that the suiting was an overwhelming experience. I cried happy all the way home! After that experience, I began to feel that I could handle what was coming at me in my family, financially, and my health.
My employer ceased complaining about the way I dress and I feel confident that I fit my career. I am top sales rep. My confidence has grown. The competition approached ME about coming to work for them! Most importantly, I am a role model for my children.

Every day I feel incredible and give thanks not only for the clothes – but also for the feelings and opportunities that the Dress for Success experience has given me. Thank you for helping women like me – and there are more who need it. It has been a year and a half; I am still smiling, enjoying every day and how it feels to be “Dressed for Success.”
